Privacy policy

Short version: Stargazr has no accounts and no database. Your location is only ever shared if you allow it, is rounded before it leaves your browser and rounded again before we ask anyone else, and is never stored. The one third party that sees anything is Google, because the site carries ads.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, no newsletters and no contact forms. We do not set our own cookies and we do not run our own analytics.

Local storage

The tool keeps your choices in your browser's local storage so the page remembers them on your next visit. That data never leaves your device, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.

Location

To show what is overhead from where you are, Stargazr needs your position. Your browser asks your permission first, and you can decline — the site stays usable with a location you type in instead.

When you do share it, the coordinates are rounded to three decimal places (roughly 110 m) and sent to our own edge worker. The worker rounds them again, to two decimal places (roughly 1.1 km), before asking MET Norway for a sky and cloud forecast for that area; the request identifies this site, not you. We keep no record of your coordinates: nothing is written to a database, and they are used only to compute the answer on that request.

Advertising

This site shows ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set or read cookies on your device, and may use the address of the page you are on, to serve and measure ads. We do not control what Google collects and we never see it.

You can review and turn off personalised advertising in Google My Ad Center, and read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Hosting and logs

The site is served by Cloudflare, which keeps short-lived operational logs (including IP addresses) to deliver traffic and block abuse. That is Cloudflare's processing, under their privacy policy; we do not query those logs to build any profile.

Your rights, and children

Because we hold nothing that identifies you, there is no personal record here for us to show you, correct, or delete. For anything Google holds about your advertising profile, use the Google links above. This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
